The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 held the 2026 South America Women’s Peace Education Completion Ceremony online on May 29 (local time in Colombia), marking the graduation of 36 participants who completed the peace education programme.
The ceremony was led by Director Seo Yeon Lee and organised to recognise graduates of the Women’s Peace Education initiative, aimed at preparing women to take active roles as peace leaders and promote a culture of peace within their communities.
During the event, participants reflected on their learning experience, revisited the concept of peace, and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting respect, coexistence and harmony at the local level.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Mariluz Usme Buitrago said peace should be seen as a daily practice rather than a distant ideal, adding that the programme had provided valuable knowledge and practical experience to support peacebuilding efforts in society.
Instructors also delivered congratulatory messages, highlighting the importance of peace education and encouraging graduates to actively apply their learning in their communities as agents of peace.
Several graduates have already begun working as peace lecturers and community activists, continuing their engagement through follow-up training programmes and peace-related initiatives.
The programme is part of broader efforts by International Women’s Peace Group to expand its peace network across South America and strengthen a sustainable culture of peace through education, leadership training and community cooperation systems.
Looking ahead, the organisation plans to further develop peace instructor training, appoint regional peace committee leaders and expand cooperation networks aimed at advancing peacebuilding activities across the region.
IWPG, which is registered with international bodies including the UN Economic and Social Council and the UN Department of Global Communications, operates a global network across more than 100 countries and continues to promote women-led peace initiatives worldwide.
