KARACHI: The director of the Federal Investigation Agency Karachi Zone met a delegation of the All Pakistan Sarafa Jewellers and Gems Association to discuss allegations of violence against a trader during a recent raid in Karachi’s Saddar area, the agency’s spokesperson said.
According to the FIA spokesperson, the meeting focused on concerns raised by traders regarding the operation conducted in Sarafa Bazaar and the developments that followed.
Officials and representatives of the jewellers’ association exchanged views on the incident, while the FIA director assured the delegation that the matter would be investigated in a “complete, transparent and impartial manner”.
The FIA said all aspects of the case would be examined in detail and stressed that the rule of law and institutional procedures would remain central to the investigation.
“The FIA will prioritise legal requirements and institutional procedures in carrying out its professional responsibilities,” the spokesperson said.
Matters related to coordination, confidence-building and grievances of the business community were also discussed during the meeting, according to the statement.
The delegation appreciated what the FIA described as its positive engagement and willingness to address traders’ concerns.
The meeting comes after an FIA raid conducted on May 15, 2026, targeting a jewellery shop in Saddar over allegations of silver smuggling.
According to media reports, FIA officials claimed records showed 178 kilogrammes of silver should have been present at the shop, but only 15 kilogrammes of locally branded silver were recovered during the operation.
The agency alleged that the remaining 163 kilogrammes may have been removed during a disturbance reportedly created by traders and shopkeepers at the scene.
Earlier, CCTV footage of the raid surfaced on social media, allegedly showing an FIA official slapping a trader during the search operation.
Following the controversy, the FIA suspended the SHO of its Anti-Corruption Circle, citing “initial observations and available evidence”.
