ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation on Sunday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as a high-level delegation from Tehran is expected to visit Pakistan later this week.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the 45-minute call focused on the evolving regional situation, with both leaders describing the exchange as cordial and constructive.
The prime minister thanked the Iranian president for sending a delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for the Islamabad talks held on April 11–12.
Shehbaz also briefed President Pezeshkian on his recent engagements with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye, saying the interactions had helped build consensus in favour of dialogue and diplomacy for lasting peace in the region.
During the conversation, the Iranian president appreciated discussions held during the recent visit of Asim Munir to Tehran, terming them constructive.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue sincere efforts, in coordination with friendly countries, to promote regional peace and stability. He also conveyed best wishes for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its role in ongoing peace efforts and expressed confidence that bilateral relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen in the coming days.
