FO says India’s reaction corroborates Pakistan’s stance on external involvement in Balochistan attacks

ISLAMABAD: India’s reaction to the recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan has “effectively corroborated” Pakistan’s longstanding position regarding external involvement in destabilising activities, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

Last month, the banned outfit Baloch Liberation Army carried out coordinated attacks in various parts of Balochistan, resulting in the martyrdom of 22 security personnel and 36 civilians.

In a statement issued on January 31, the Inter-Services Public Relations said terrorists belonging to India-sponsored Fitna al-Hindustan carried out multiple attacks targeting civilians in Quetta, Mastung, Nushki, Dalbandin, Kharan, Panjgur, Tump, Gwadar and Pasni.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies responded promptly and launched extensive clearance operations across the province, killing 92 India-backed terrorists, including three suicide bombers, according to the military’s media wing.

Addressing the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, dialogue and diplomacy, while firmly safeguarding its national interests and principled positions on international disputes.

The spokesperson also recalled that this month marks the 19th anniversary of the Samjhauta Express bombing, in which more than 70 people lost their lives. He said Swami Aseemanand, one of the individuals implicated in the attack, had publicly confessed to involvement, while Indian Colonel Shrikant Purohit had also admitted his role. However, he added that all four accused in the case remain at large.

Andrabi said India has failed to bring those involved in the Samjhauta Express attack to justice and strongly rejected the recent statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, terming it baseless.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, the spokesperson said the country remains committed to peace and stability in the region but will continue to expose and counter any attempts to undermine its security.
