ISLAMABAD: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq on Monday said the capital police had achieved major successes against organised crime in 2026, including busting a bank robbery gang, arresting members of a TCS impersonation gang and solving a blind murder case.

Addressing a press conference alongside senior officers, the DIG said a private bank was robbed on February 16 in the Kohsar police station’s Blue Area jurisdiction. A case was immediately registered and a police team traced the organised gang in a short span of time using modern technical tools, CCTV footage and human intelligence.

He said four suspects, including the gang leader, were arrested from Peshawar and Karak. During investigation, it was revealed that the alleged mastermind was Ziaullah, while the bank’s security guard Abdul Rehman acted as facilitator. Police recovered Rs3 million in cash, three pistols used in the crime and a motorcycle. The arrested suspects were identified as Zaryan Khattak, Abdul Malik, Ziaullah and Abdul Rehman.

Separately, the Lohi Bher police arrested members of an organised gang involved in armed robbery by impersonating a courier company. The suspects allegedly obtained bogus or black SIM cards and posed as representatives of a courier service to call citizens under the pretext of parcel delivery.

According to the DIG, the gang would call victims to the gate, enter homes at gunpoint, hold families hostage and transfer money through digital banking apps before looting gold jewellery, mobile phones, watches and other valuables. One suspect wore a courier company uniform during the crimes.

Police recovered Pakistani and foreign currency, gold jewellery and valuables worth over Rs17.3 million, including Rs7.2 million in cash, 14 tolas of gold worth approximately Rs7 million, three iPhones worth around Rs1.5 million, four expensive watches valued at about Rs1 million, $2,000 and 8,000 Thai currency. The arrested suspects were identified as Muneeb Sohail Rajput, Muhammad Faheem and Iftikhar Ahmed.

In another development, the DIG said a blind murder case in the Karpa police station area was solved. A body was found inside a car parked in a vacant plot, and the victim, later identified as Hamid Khan, had been shot in the head.

Using CCTV footage and modern technical methods, police traced and arrested suspect Adnan Shaukat Satti. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to killing Hamid Khan over a property dispute involving Rs6.8 million. The suspect said he lured the victim to a deserted plot on the pretext of showing another property and shot him inside the vehicle.

Meanwhile, police also arrested three members, including the leader, of a previously record-holder scrap dealer gang involved in house thefts in the jurisdictions of Lohi Bher and Bani Gala police stations. The gang conducted reconnaissance during the day and carried out thefts at night.

Police recovered stolen property worth over Rs11.5 million, including Pakistani and foreign currency, expensive watches, mobile phones, tablet devices, gold jewellery and weapons used in the crimes. The arrested suspects were identified as Sudhir, Abdul Rehman and Waheedullah.

DIG Muhammad Jawad Tariq said Islamabad Police would continue indiscriminate action against organised crime to ensure the safety of citizens.
