Latif Khosa urges CJP to shift Imran Khan to Al-Shifa Hospital

ISLAMABAD: PTI founder Imran Khan’s lawyer, Latif Khosa, has appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi to order the immediate transfer of the jailed former prime minister to Al-Shifa Hospital for specialised treatment of his eye condition.

In a letter addressed to the top judge on Monday, Khosa said the former premier’s ailment could not be adequately treated inside Adiala Jail, where he has remained incarcerated since 2023.

The request comes after Imran Khan’s counsel Salman Safdar claimed that the ex-prime minister has lost 85% of the sight in his right eye. Following the revelation, the opposition alliance has continued its sit-in for a fourth consecutive day, demanding his transfer to a medical facility.

Khosa alleged that Imran Khan’s “fundamental and statutory rights have consistently been violated” during his imprisonment. He stated that although family members and close associates were previously allowed to meet him under jail regulations, no meeting has been permitted for the past four to five months.

The lawyer highlighted that Imran Khan, aged 73, is facing worsening health issues, which he said are a matter of grave concern not only for his family but also for the wider public.

Khosa noted that in recent months, reports have circulated raising serious concerns over the deterioration of Imran Khan’s eyesight and overall health. He added that the continued denial of family access has created deep uncertainty.

Referring to a Supreme Court-ordered medical assessment, Khosa said a check-up was conducted inside the jail on February 15, but claimed it was carried out without the presence of family members, personal doctors, or legal representatives.

He argued that conducting such an examination in secrecy has given rise to serious apprehensions, especially in light of the findings submitted before the court.

The lawyer demanded that authorities provide an attested copy of the medical report and allow immediate access to Imran Khan’s personal physicians, including Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Asim Yousaf.

Khosa also urged the court to direct the immediate shifting of the PTI founder to Al-Shifa Hospital for treatment and ensure that his family is informed and granted reasonable access regarding his medical condition and any future procedures.
