ISLAMABAD: Jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s medical report has been shared with his family on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Friday.
In a post on X, Tarar said that the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) executive director sent the report to the superintendent of Adiala jail, which was then handed over to Khan’s family.
He added that a letter had been written by the Leader of the Opposition to the prime minister, while PTI leaders also approached the Supreme Court regarding Khan’s medical check-up.
The announcement comes shortly after PTI once again moved the Supreme Court, seeking Khan’s medical reports and restoration of visitation rights.
The former ruling party and its allies submitted a memorandum to the apex court, alleging violations of “law and human rights” in Khan’s treatment at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.
The party approached the court a week after PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said Khan’s family would receive the medical report following his meeting with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
However, PTI said in its memorandum that no medical reports had been provided to the family so far.
The party also claimed that access to Khan’s family and lawyers was denied again this Tuesday, despite court orders. It added that the last meeting between Khan and one of his sisters took place on December 2, 2025.
PTI demanded immediate access to Khan for his family, doctors, lawyers and friends, alleging that his rights as a prisoner and a human being have been consistently violated since his incarceration on August 5, 2023.
The memorandum further claimed that Khan has been kept in prolonged isolation, which the party said constitutes torture under international law and local jurisprudence.
Concerns were raised after reports emerged that Khan was shifted from Adiala jail to Pims for an eye procedure last week. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed in the Senate on February 3 that Khan was moved to the hospital on his own request.
In its memorandum, PTI also alleged that superior court orders, particularly those of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), have been disregarded.
The party noted inaction on petitions filed against the denial of fundamental rights to Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi, who remains incarcerated in Adiala jail.
PTI also criticised delays in hearings on petitions seeking suspension of sentences handed to Khan and the former first lady, calling the failure to decide such applications “oppressive”.
The memorandum further claimed that Khan underwent a rushed and secretive medical procedure at Pims on January 26, 2026, and that his family was kept in the dark in violation of jail rules.
It also cited Bushra Bibi’s meeting with her family on February 3, during which she reportedly said Khan had been complaining of eye pain for nearly two weeks but was not attended to until the condition became serious.
