Pak Navy conducts medical evacuation of Sri Lankan national on high seas

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy ships TABUK and MOAWIN successfully carried out a medical evacuation of a Sri Lankan national requiring urgent medical attention from an Indonesian-flagged vessel, MV Grey Palm, on the high seas, officials said on Saturday.

The operation was launched after a formal request was received from the Sri Lankan Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre for immediate medical assistance to a critically ill Sri Lankan crew member aboard the vessel, which was located around 800 nautical miles, or approximately 1,500 kilometres, off Pakistan’s coast.

Acting as first responders, Pakistan Navy ships were dispatched to the location and safely evacuated the patient along with an attendant. The individual was provided necessary medical treatment onboard the Pakistan Navy ship soon after evacuation.

Sri Lankan authorities and the family of the crew member expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its timely response and humanitarian support.

Officials said the successful medical evacuation reflects Pakistan Navy’s operational readiness and its continued commitment to ensuring the safety of life at sea, regardless of nationality.
