ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration has decided to stop the entry of vehicles without e-tags into the federal capital from January 1, with enforcement actions set to begin under directives issued by the interior minister.

According to officials, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has instructed authorities to speed up processing at all e-tag issuance points to facilitate citizens ahead of the deadline. As part of the initiative, 16 e-tag centres have been established at various locations across the city.

DC Islamabad said that since November 14, nearly 100,000 vehicles have already been issued e-tags. He added that vehicles without e-tags will be identified using automated tag readers installed at key entry points and checkpoints across the capital.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon said that once the tag readers become fully operational from January 1, strict action will be taken against vehicles entering Islamabad without valid e-tags.

Authorities have advised citizens to get e-tags installed on their vehicles at the earliest to avoid legal complications, stressing that the system is aimed at improving traffic management and security in the federal capital.
