ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of possible disruptions due to rain, snowfall, fog and extremely cold conditions across several parts of the country from today until December 14.

According to the NDMA, a westerly wind system is expected to impact northern and western Pakistan, bringing rain and snowfall to Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and parts of Balochistan. The advisory cautioned that the changing weather may affect routine life and travel, particularly in mountainous areas.

The authority warned of an increase in fog and smog in the plains, while low-lying areas are likely to receive light to moderate rain and higher altitudes may experience snowfall. Reduced visibility due to fog is expected to cause traffic disruptions, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast cold and partly cloudy weather in most parts of the country, with extremely low temperatures in hilly regions at night and in the early morning. Islamabad and adjoining areas are expected to remain cold and partly cloudy, while Punjab may see light rain in Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas. Cities including Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Multan are likely to experience smog and moderate to dense fog.

Most districts of Sindh will remain dry, though cold conditions will prevail at night and in the morning, with light fog expected in Sukkur, Shikarpur and Larkana. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and light snowfall are forecast for Chitral, Dir, Swat and Kohistan, while fog is likely in Peshawar, Mardan and nearby areas. Balochistan is expected to experience cold and partly cloudy weather, with extremely cold conditions in the northern parts of the province. Cold weather with rain and snowfall is also forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The NDMA urged citizens to remain cautious, particularly those travelling through affected regions. People have been advised to stay updated with weather reports, take precautionary measures against cold conditions, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of dense fog or snowfall to reduce the risk of accidents.
