CHAMAN: Security forces seized four containers carrying Afghan pomegranates after acting on intelligence provided by sensitive agencies at the Pak-Afghan border, officials said on Tuesday.

According to security sources, the containers had entered Pakistan from Afghanistan. A total of 8,000 crates of pomegranates were taken into custody and later handed over to customs authorities for further action.

Officials reiterated that all forms of trade remain suspended at the Bab-e-Dosti border crossing, which is currently open only for the repatriation of Afghan refugees. They emphasised that terrorism and trade cannot go hand in hand, and that a complete ban remains in place on the entry of Afghan goods.

Customs authorities confirmed that the four containers carried 56 tons of pomegranates, with an estimated market value of Rs 80 million. An investigation is under way.
