ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has filed a contempt of court petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the Adiala Jail superintendent and other officials for allegedly denying her meetings with the former prime minister despite clear court orders.
In her petition, Aleema stated that the IHC had restored the schedule of two weekly meetings with Imran Khan, but jail authorities have failed to implement the order.
The plea came after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi and several PTI leaders staged an overnight sit-in outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, following the denial of Afridi’s meeting with Imran Khan for the eighth time on Thursday.
Earlier, Imran Khan’s sisters, including Aleema, had also held protests outside the jail over repeated refusal of visitation rights.
PTI finally called off its sit-in on Friday morning, after which Afridi announced plans to approach the IHC for legal action.
The petition has named Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, Sadar Bairuni police SHO Raja Aizaz Azim, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha and Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin as respondents.
According to the plea, Aleema Khan expressed serious concern over her brother’s health, legal rights and humane treatment in custody. She argued that despite the IHC order issued on March 24, jail authorities have deliberately disobeyed court directions.
The petition further said that continuous non-compliance and alleged political victimisation forced Imran Khan and others to file writ petitions to safeguard their right to visitation.
It also alleged that authorities have repeatedly denied access to Imran Khan’s legal counsel, family members and party colleagues, in defiance of court rulings.
