OTTAWA: Foreign ministers of Canada and Pakistan, Anita Anand and Ishaq Dar, held a bilateral call to reaffirm strong ties and deepen cooperation in key economic and strategic areas.
According to a joint statement, Canada and Pakistan agreed to facilitate the export of Canadian canola to Pakistan, recognizing the growing demand and potential of Pakistan’s expanding market for the commodity. The move is expected to enhance trade relations and create new opportunities for exporters and investors in both countries.
The ministers also welcomed the successful conclusion of the first round of negotiations on the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA), led by Canada’s Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu and Pakistan’s Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh. The pact aims to ensure a transparent investment environment and strengthen economic collaboration.
Both sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation on energy security and critical minerals, with Canada expected to play a growing role in supporting Pakistan’s mineral development and clean energy goals.
The upcoming sixth round of bilateral consultations will further advance shared priorities, strengthen government and private sector linkages, and explore new areas of strategic cooperation.
