Aurangzeb calls for maritime reforms, public-private partnerships at IMC-25

KARACHI: The International Maritime Conference 2025 (IMC-25) began at the Karachi Expo Centre alongside the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC-25), bringing together global maritime leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss key issues shaping the future of the world’s oceans.

Organized by the Pakistan Navy in collaboration with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the event aims to advance dialogue on sustainable maritime development and regional cooperation.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, attended the inaugural session as Chief Guest, emphasizing the maritime sector’s critical role in Pakistan’s economic revival and long-term sustainability. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to unlock the potential of the Blue Economy through public-private partnerships, modernized port infrastructure, and enhanced regional trade links.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Javaid Iqbal (Retd), President (Designate) of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), welcomed delegates and highlighted the conference’s role in shaping maritime policy and strategy.

Themed “Harnessing Blue Economy Potential for Sustainable Development,” the first day featured keynote addresses and technical sessions on maritime security, ocean resource management, innovation, and sustainable governance.

The two-day conference will continue with expert panels and policy discussions to foster regional connectivity and promote responsible use of marine resources.

Delegates from numerous friendly countries, research institutions, and the maritime industry are attending, reflecting Pakistan’s growing stature as a regional hub for maritime dialogue and cooperation.
