ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday extended Diwali greetings to the Hindu community, affirming that there is no room for hatred, chaos, or terrorism in Pakistan.

Speaking at a Diwali event hosted at the Prime Minister’s House, PM Shehbaz acknowledged the contributions of all communities to the country and said their presence reflected the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The ceremony was attended by senior religious leaders, diplomats, parliamentarians, and members of minority communities.

The prime minister emphasised that all citizens stand united for the nation’s progress and to thwart any “nefarious designs” against Pakistan. He said all communities enjoy equal rights and freedoms, calling the event “a living reflection of Pakistan’s pluralism.”

PM Shehbaz reaffirmed support for the country’s security forces, stressing their efforts to eliminate terrorism. He said the Muslim majority has always expressed strong solidarity with minorities during times of hardship.

The premier also highlighted steps taken by the government for minorities, including parliamentary representation, a 5% job quota, and scholarships for students.

Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Kheal Das Kohistani thanked the prime minister for celebrating Diwali at the PM House.

He lauded the Pakistan Army’s “restraint and commitment to peace” during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, contrasting it with Indian forces’ targeting of civilians and religious sites.
