MURREE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday announced a comprehensive development package for Murree, unveiling new initiatives in health, transport, education and tourism.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre in Samli, the CM said the facility — completed in record time — had already begun operations, with five angiographies conducted on its first day. Cardiac surgeries will commence soon, she added.

Maryam Nawaz said that Murree’s police, health and education departments had been made independent, while several roads had already been completed ahead of formal announcements.

Outlining further plans, she said local schools were being upgraded and a major water supply project and sanitation scheme were being launched. A dedicated tourism force has also been created to make Murree a world-class travel destination.

The CM said an expressway had been constructed to facilitate millions of visitors and that the “Suthra Punjab” cleanliness programme was actively operating in the hill station.

The Murree Cardiac Centre will also cater to residents of Galiyat, while a modern hospital is planned for Bhurban. Three buses will initially operate for Samli Hospital, she added.

Maryam Nawaz announced that 15 new buses had been ordered for Murree. The upcoming Green Line bus service will be free for students, senior citizens and women. A train service will also be introduced to reduce reliance on private vehicles.

Taking a swipe at past governments, she said others made empty promises while her administration had delivered without fanfare. She added that even major challenges such as recent flooding in Punjab had not slowed down development efforts.
