Dubai: A controversial scene unfolded after the Asia Cup final when Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav reportedly refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, bringing the post-match ceremony to a halt.
According to ACC sources, the original plan was for Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to personally hand over the Asia Cup trophy to the winning side. However, the Indian team declined to proceed with the protocol. As a result, the trophy was removed from the presentation area, and only individual awards and cash prizes were handed out to standout players from the Pakistan-India final clash.
Under ICC regulations, the post-match ceremony is expected to begin within ten minutes of the match ending. However, despite officials and fans from both sides waiting, the proceedings were stalled indefinitely after Suryakumar Yadav reportedly refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.
The ICC has so far not issued any official statement regarding the incident.

Interestingly, the post-match host — who had earlier interviewed Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha — abruptly announced, “The event is finished,” shortly after Mohsin Naqvi stepped onto the stage.
Cricket analysts are calling it one of the most notable displays of poor sportsmanship seen in a major continental event, with many terming the move by the Indian captain as “avoidable and disrespectful.”
