NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with Costa Rican Foreign Minister Arnoldo Andre Tinoco on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting was marked by a constructive exchange of views on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing collaboration in multilateral forums.
During the discussion, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding political, economic, and cultural ties between Pakistan and Costa Rica. They emphasized the importance of regular exchanges and institutional linkages to deepen engagement and build upon the existing goodwill. The two Ministers highlighted the potential for greater cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, renewable energy, climate action, and sustainable development.
Foreign Minister Dar underlined Pakistan’s resolve to strengthen its partnerships with countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. He noted that Costa Rica, recognized globally for its commitment to peace, democracy, and environmental sustainability, offers opportunities for meaningful cooperation in renewable energy, eco-tourism, and environmental protection — sectors where Costa Rica has achieved notable global recognition.
The Deputy Prime Minister also briefed his Costa Rican counterpart on Pakistan’s efforts to deal with the impacts of climate change, particularly in the aftermath of devastating floods, and reiterated Pakistan’s support for global initiatives that advocate for climate justice and sustainable solutions. He invited Costa Rica to explore opportunities for collaboration under South-South cooperation frameworks, including within the Group of 77 (G77) and other UN platforms.

Foreign Minister Tinoco expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role as an active member of the international community and acknowledged its contributions to global peace, humanitarian assistance, and multilateral diplomacy. He welcomed Pakistan’s outreach to Latin America and reaffirmed Costa Rica’s willingness to enhance cooperation with Pakistan both bilaterally and in multilateral institutions.
Both sides also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation at the United Nations, including on pressing global issues such as climate change, sustainable development, conflict prevention, and reform of the multilateral system to better reflect the interests of developing countries.
The meeting concluded with an understanding to continue dialogue and explore concrete avenues of partnership to further consolidate relations between Pakistan and Costa Rica.
