ISTANBUL: A 90-kilogram bear named Okan has become an online sensation after a video of his dramatic trip to the veterinarian went viral on social media.

The young bear, who lives in a wildlife park in Türkiye, reportedly fell ill after consuming an excessive amount of fruit, leaving him lethargic and in pain. Concerned staff transported him to a hospital for medical checks, including an MRI scan.

Dramatic rescue caught on camera

Footage shared widely online showed Okan being carefully placed on a stretcher and wheeled into the facility, as veterinarians worked to diagnose his condition. Wildlife officials said his fruit binge left him bloated and in need of urgent care.

Fortunately, Okan has since made a full recovery. Park staff said he is now active and playful once again. To avoid further health issues, his diet has been adjusted to include a balanced mix of seasonal fruits, vegetables, fish in the winter months, and honey — his favourite treat.

Officials said the incident highlighted the importance of dietary management in wildlife care, while also offering the public a glimpse into the day-to-day work of animal rescue teams.

Okan has now become something of a local celebrity, with fans following his recovery and ongoing adventures — though hopefully with a more balanced menu.
