KP Assembly Passes Bill to Establish Climate Action Board

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has approved the Climate Action Board Bill 2025, paving the way for the creation of an autonomous body tasked with tackling climate change at the provincial level.

According to the bill, the Climate Action Board will function with full independence. It will comprise eight administrative secretaries, two members of the provincial assembly and four representatives from the private sector.

The board’s mandate includes formulating climate policies, coordinating with government departments, conducting research and maintaining ties with international institutions. It will also be responsible for developing strategies to obtain carbon credits and promoting a low-carbon economy in the province.

The legislation further stipulates that the board will convene at least once every four months. Other responsibilities include preparing an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and fostering policies to encourage climate-resilient development.
