ISLAMABAD: Tremors from a moderate earthquake were felt in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) on Wednesday, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre.
The quake, measuring 5.3 magnitude, was recorded in Peshawar, Swat, Malakand, Swabi and Mansehra, along with adjoining areas. It also struck Gahkuch city in GB’s Ghizer district.
The seismic centre said the epicentre lay in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were received.

Frequent tremors in the north
The Hindu Kush region has remained seismically active, with a series of tremors rattling northern Pakistan in recent months. Earlier this month, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake was felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of KP, including Peshawar.
Pakistan lies along a major fault line between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it particularly vulnerable to earthquakes, especially in the north.
Karachi, meanwhile, has witnessed unusual seismic activity this year, with over 30 mild tremors reported in June. Experts attribute the phenomenon to movement along the long-dormant Landhi Fault Line.
