Another son of Aleema Khan taken into custody, says lawyer

ISLAMABAD: Another son of PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, was taken into custody on Saturday, her lawyer claimed.

Advocate Rana Mudassar Omar told reporters that Sher Shah, Aleema’s younger son, was detained outside the court premises where he had accompanied his family for his brother’s hearing.

According to the lawyer, plainclothes personnel, escorted by police vehicles, intercepted their car and whisked Sher Shah away. At the time of the arrest, the vehicle was being driven by Aleema Khan’s husband.

The development comes a day after Aleema’s elder son, Shahrez Azim, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots. On Friday, an anti-terrorism court handed over Shahrez to police on an eight-day physical remand.

Speaking to the media after the hearing, Aleema Khan alleged that the arrests were part of a broader campaign of “political victimisation.” She recalled that Imran Khan was granted bail in eight cases earlier this week, “and in response, authorities came to my house the same evening and took away my son.”

She added that Shahrez had largely remained focused on sports and business. “We have said time and again: if you want to arrest us, go ahead. We will always be the voice of Imran Khan,” she remarked.

Sharing a message from her last meeting with the PTI founder, she quoted him as saying: “This is the night of oppression, but dawn will eventually come.”
