KARACHI: A major power breakdown crippled the city’s three main pumping stations on Thursday, slashing Karachi’s water supply by 200 million gallons amid already severe shortages.
A K-Electric spokesperson said a cable fault disrupted power supply to feeders at Dhabeji, Pipri, and Hub pumping stations. Large parts of the city—including Port Qasim, Landhi, Korangi, Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal Town, and Chanesar Town—are expected to face acute shortages, while sensitive facilities such as PNS Mehran and PAF Base Faisal may also be affected.
Officials said repair work was under way but warned disruptions could continue until full power restoration.

Meanwhile, residents endured a third straight day without electricity in several neighbourhoods, fuelling anger and street protests. Power was suspended after torrential rains earlier this week, but supply has yet to be restored in many areas, prompting citizens to accuse K-Electric of negligence and delays.
