Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, met with the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Philémon Yang, in New York. He used the opportunity to draw attention to India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), warning that such actions pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of global developments, including the situations in the Middle East, Iran, and Afghanistan. They also touched upon regional dynamics and shared concerns about rising tensions and the need for collective international engagement.
Senator Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to multilateralism and emphasized the importance of the United Nations in addressing global challenges. He called for a more effective and representative UN system that meets the evolving expectations of the international community.
He appreciated the leadership of President Yang in promoting key initiatives such as the Pact for the Future and the UN80 Initiative, and stressed the need to build coherence and synergy between them. These efforts, he noted, are crucial to making the UN more inclusive and responsive.

Both sides agreed on the need for urgent reforms in global governance, particularly in the UN Security Council. Senator Dar highlighted the importance of making the Council more democratic, transparent, and reflective of today’s geopolitical realities.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed deep concern over India’s disinformation campaigns and its aggressive actions, including illegal steps in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He also pointed to India’s alleged support of terrorism through proxies, calling for increased international scrutiny.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to resolving all disputes with India through peaceful dialogue, in line with international law, UN Charter principles, and relevant Security Council resolutions.
President Yang acknowledged these concerns and reiterated his vision for a peaceful and inclusive global order. He expressed support for effective multilateralism and emphasized the central role of the UN in promoting sustainable development, dialogue, and cooperation among member states
