Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released updated figures on the widespread damage caused by ongoing monsoon rains across the country, reporting that 252 people have lost their lives so far.
In the past 24 hours alone, 10 more fatalities were reported, including five children, three women, and two men. The deaths occurred in Punjab (4), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (4), and Gilgit-Baltistan (2).
The total death toll now includes 139 in Punjab, 60 in KP, 24 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, 6 in Islamabad, 5 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 2 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Among the deceased, 121 were children, 46 women, and 85 men, the report added.
Additionally, 13 people were injured in the past day, bringing the total number of injured to 611 nationwide. The injured include 202 children, 170 women, and 239 men.
Province-wise, 477 injuries have been reported from Punjab, followed by 74 in KP, 40 in Sindh, 9 in AJK, 4 each in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan, and 3 in Islamabad.
The NDMA further revealed that the rains have damaged 1,005 houses across the country. Of these, 224 houses were completely destroyed, while 781 suffered partial damage.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while relief and rescue operations remain underway in the most affected areas.
