RAWALPINDI: A delegation of the US Afghanistan War Commission, led by its co-chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr Colin F. Jackson, met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.

According to the military’s media wing, the delegation is undertaking a review of the United States’ 20-year engagement in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the participants discussed matters of mutual interest, including Pakistan’s support, the regional security environment and developments in Afghanistan.

The discussions also focused on perspectives relevant to the commission’s ongoing work and assessment of the conflict.

Field Marshal Asim Munir shared Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that shaped the Afghanistan conflict and highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan during the prolonged conflict in the neighbouring country.

He stressed the importance of incorporating the regional perspective and Pakistan’s experience while assessing the strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions of the conflict.

The US Afghanistan War Commission delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the Afghanistan conflict and appreciated the country’s continued contribution to regional peace and stability.
