ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Atta Tarar has warned that Pakistan will give a “befitting response” if Afghan territory continues to be used for attacks against the country, saying Islamabad will target militant infrastructure being used for terrorism.

Speaking to journalist Asma Shirazi on HUM TV programme “Faisla Aap Ka” on Thursday, Tarar alleged that the Afghan Taliban government was facilitating and patronising militants involved in attacks against Pakistan.

He said Pakistan would target hideouts being used for terrorism against the country and destroy militant infrastructure in Afghanistan.

“If Afghan territory is used against Pakistan, a strong response will be given,” the minister said.

Tarar said the Afghan government had launched drones towards Pakistan, which were intercepted and destroyed by Pakistani air defence systems.

He said the locations from where the drones were launched had also been targeted.

The minister said Pakistan had shared videos showing terrorist hideouts and sites allegedly involved in manufacturing drones, adding that Islamabad had evidence to establish that militant bases had been targeted.

He said Pakistan would continue taking measures to protect its territory and people.

Tarar further said the Afghan Taliban government did not have the capability to harm Pakistan, adding that Islamabad would respond whenever Afghan territory was used to launch attacks against the country.

Earlier, Pakistan condemned what it described as a deliberate drone incursion from Afghan territory and said it had carried out precision strikes on 10 locations in Afghanistan allegedly used to launch and store drones.

In a statement, Tarar described the September 23 drone incursion as a “blatant violation” of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and called it a “grave and unacceptable act of aggression”.

He said Pakistan’s air defence systems had detected, tracked and neutralised all the drones before they could reach their intended targets.

The minister’s remarks came amid heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border following reported drone incursions, militant infiltration attempts and cross-border exchanges of fire.
