ISLAMABAD: At least three tourists were killed and seven others injured after a boat capsized in Saifullah Lake in Kalam, Swat, rescue officials said on Wednesday.

According to initial reports, rescue teams recovered the bodies and shifted the injured to Kalam Hospital for treatment. Officials said the tourists aboard the boat were residents of Punjab.

Meanwhile, at least five people lost their lives and 28 others were injured in rain- and lightning-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, as authorities warned of possible flash floods, glacial lake outburst floods and landslides in the coming days.

In Balochistan’s Zhob district and adjoining areas, torrential rain and strong winds caused three houses to collapse, killing three people and injuring 10 others, rescue officials said.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district, two children were killed and three others injured after lightning struck during a heavy thunderstorm, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

In Upper Dir’s Wari area, lightning struck an educational institution in Asori Dara, injuring 15 female students. Officials said three of the injured students were in critical condition and had been shifted to hospital for specialised treatment.

The PDMA said a cloudburst and heavy rain in Lower Chitral damaged 27 houses, while flash floods affected two mosques, two shops, a bridge and four vehicles.

In Upper Chitral’s Yarkhun area of Mastuj, flash floods also damaged irrigation canals and a house.

In Islamabad, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds brought down temperatures but uprooted several trees, damaging parked vehicles in Sector F-7.

Authorities said emergency teams had been deployed to clear debris, assist affected residents and restore normal traffic flow.
