6.0-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Afg-Pak Border Region

Islamabad – A powerful earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in the early hours of Monday, sending tremors across Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake was recorded at 12:17 AM (PST), with its epicenter located in southeastern Afghanistan, roughly 23 kilometers from the border. The exact depth and coordinates are yet to be confirmed.

Strong tremors were felt in several northern cities of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, and parts of Kashmir. Reports of shaking also came in from northern India, eastern Afghanistan, and southern Tajikistan.

The tremors triggered panic in multiple cities, prompting residents to rush out of their homes and buildings in the middle of the night.

So far, no casualties or major damage have been reported. Authorities, however, are monitoring the situation closely and have cautioned that aftershocks may follow.
