ISLAMABAD: At least 50 terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij — a term used for outlawed groups like the TTP — were killed in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during an attempted border incursion, security sources said on Thursday.
According to officials, the Afghanistan-based militants tried to take advantage of the 48-hour ceasefire that was agreed between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban, following precision strikes on Kabul and Kandahar earlier this week.

The terrorists were intercepted in an intelligence-based operation, resulting in heavy casualties. Security sources said a large number of Khawarij were also injured in the engagement.
A clearance operation is still underway in the border area, and authorities fear the number of dead terrorists may rise further.
