ISLAMABAD: At least 25 lawmakers belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its ally, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), have not resigned from National Assembly standing committees despite clear instructions from party leadership.
According to parliamentary sources, 52 PTI/SIC MNAs have so far stepped down from their committee posts, with five more resignations received recently. However, several legislators — including Sohail Sultan, Muhammad Nawaz Khan, Muhammad Atif, Sher Ali Arbab, Osama Ahmed Mela, Ghulam Muhammad, Muhammad Saadullah, Umar Farooq, Muhammad Mehboob Sultan, Khawaja Sheeraz, Ayesha Nazir, Mian Ghaus Muhammad and Fayyaz Hussain — continue to hold committee memberships.
Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan had directed all party members to relinquish committee positions. Yet, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has not taken formal action on the resignations, with reports suggesting the government has asked him not to accept some of them. “Until their resignations are officially accepted, they remain members of their respective House committees,” sources said.

Meanwhile, PTI has announced a boycott of National Assembly proceedings in protest.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, when contacted, contested reports about 25 members still holding posts. “The list is incorrect — 8 to 10 members are abroad, some have gone for Umrah, a few are unwell, and we have information that around eight more tendered resignations today,” he said.
