Islamabad: At least 200 incidents of child sexual abuse were registered in the federal capital between January 2021 and June 2025, according to data shared in the Senate on Wednesday.

Responding to a written query by Senator Shahadat Awan, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed the house that a total of 567 rape cases were reported in Islamabad during this period, with 625 suspects arrested. Of these, 485 cases were challaned, while 80 ended in convictions, 23 in acquittals, and trials in 406 cases remain pending.

The data revealed that out of the 200 child abuse cases, 93 victims were boys and 108 girls. Police arrested 222 suspects, but only 12 were convicted. Fifteen were acquitted, 163 remain under trial, while 26 suspects are still absconding.

Zone-wise figures showed that the Rural Zone reported 63 child sexual abuse cases, followed by Saddar Zone with 61, Soan Zone with 38, I-Area Zone with 21, and City Zone with 17 cases.

Yearly data highlighted an alarming surge, with 70 cases reported in 2022 alone, the highest in the four-year span. This was followed by 52 cases in 2023, 60 in 2024, and 18 cases up to June 2025.

Despite multiple arrests, conviction rates remain strikingly low. For instance, in Saddar Zone, only nine convictions were recorded out of 61 cases, while in Rural Zone, just three convictions came in 63 cases. In both Soan and City Zones, no conviction was reported during the period.
